Software Updates

Although the activityowner.com blog has been quiet for a few months (due to the tools working too well for the author :-), several software updates have made their way onto the wiki. I wanted to post a quick note so that long-time users were aware of what has become available.

All these changes have been rolled into AO-Pack, except for the outlinker updates.

MindReader

  • Make sure you are using GyroQ 1.9.4.7. MindReader does not work with 1.9.4.9.
  • You can automatically remove markup like “next week” or “isproject” (and avoid need to put in brackets), by toggling to the “m” tag and typing “setoption:autodelete:1”
  • There is a new “nm” tag in the tag library that generates reads a string to create a new project map with in-tray, reference, and plan branches and markup based on the provided string.
  • MindJet connect compatibility added

Mark Task Complete

  • The macro now “chirps” when it completes its work so it is easier to avoid causing problems by moving on to other activities before it is done.
  • The macro now defaults to the new option of storing completed tasks in a branch under the parent project rather than to a floating “complete” topic.
  • MindJet connect compatibility added.

Next Action Analysis

  • Overdue projects are now listed separately and overdue tasks inheriting their status from the project are left off the “past target” list. This aspect still needs some tweaking, but it is generally much easier to adjust the project dates than deal with the potentially long list of tasks that are just inheriting their status.
  • The macro now automatically brings up an advice page for your weakest score attribute. Please add to the advice on the page if you have insights on how to improve.

Outlinker

  • Outlinker has new commands to reply to and save messages (rs, ras).
  • A “s2am” keyword is now recognized in outlinker that lets you send a task with link to current message immediately to the active map instead of to the GyroQ queue. This can be useful if you are working with a set of messages related to a project that you want to organize immediately.
  • Adding a copy of the message as a topic note is now optional.
  • The OutLinker dialog box now has a timer that tells you how quickly you are processing your tasks.

    Hi AO,

Good to hear from you again!

I think my company is migrating to Outlook in a few months, so I will eventually have the opportunity to use Outlinker.

    Hi AO,

thanks for the updates. I am using your setup since quite a while now and I have been quiet and very content with it as well.
What do I have to consider when moving to MM8? What changes are necessary from your side? Is it working at all? I know that Gyronix is updating GyroQ and RM right now and versions for MM8 will be available soon.
    What about Outlinker and MindReader?

    Many thanks and best regards

    Stefan

Hi Stefan — I have not had a chance to look at MM8 yet. Until the GyroQ verison is available, I’m fairly sure you could use MindReader (in “c” mode) by assigning the macro to the topic context menu. Other MindReader tags can be made to work using a macro on the wiki that simulates GyroQ/MindReader (developed during the wait for v7 GyroQ. You can also run Mark task complete and NAA in by assigning to the topic context menu. Outlinker will need some edits to its code to point to v8.

I will give the v8 trial a try soon to see what edits would need to be made. I may not be upgrading right away as I’m not sure I need the new features.

This email from Gyronix explains their plands for GyroQ

    Hi Chris,

GyroQ Beta on target for today.. more info below

    GyroQ
The current version of GyroQ will not work at all with MindManager 8 – integration with MindManager is version-specific. We are in the final stages of development of GyroQ 2, an upgrade for GyroQ. GyroQ 2 will add compatibility with MindManager 8 and Mindjet Connect, (plus some other cool stuff!) We are expecting a beta to be available by the end of this week. As this is an upgrade, an upgrade will have to be purchased (pricing to be decided).

I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further queries or enquiries, please email me back – we are happy to be of assistance.

    Kind regards

    Hi AO,

A colleage installed Mindreader/Outlinker without GyroQ (he doesn’t have a license). This seemd to be working fine in the older version of Outlinker, but now nothing happens when he “outlinks a message”. Is this setup still supported?

    Is “usegyroq” set to “0”?

The earlier version prompted for this but the most recent version assumes GyroQ is there by default.
